From the Elder Sports Archive:

Moeller defeated Sycamore, 31-7, in the other regional semi-final, so the Panthers and Crusaders met again in the regional final, back at Nippert Stadium. Before about 18,000 people, the passing-centered Panther offense turned to the rushing game, and Brandon Sowers was ready, picking up 212 yards and 3 touchdowns on 33 carries. Elder led at the half, 12-6, on two Sowers TDs, and 20-6 at the end of three quarters, following a Ryan TD pass to Stricker, and a Ryan conversion run. Sowers scored his third TD early in the fourth and, with the score 27-6 and under 7 minutes left, it looked like the game was over. But Moeller was not finished. The Crusaders scored 15 points in the last 5 minutes, and were driving for the tying touchdown when a Crusader fumble on the 3-yard line, on what looked like a sure touchdown, was recovered by Nick Nicastro and Ryan McKenna and the Panthers held on for the win, 27-21. Elder was regional champs for the first time, and headed for Dayton and their first state semi-final game.
